Given the combined breadth and depth of the material, this workshop is open to all skill levels!

Antarctica: Behind the Scenes

Experience what it's like to take a photographic journey to Antarctica aboard a converted Soviet "spy" ship. Learn how to maximize your adventures, saving time and money when booking a photo safari, making travel plans, preparing for foreign/austere locations, and undertaking a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Chris will share both insightful travel shots and also a variety of his award winning fine art photos, culled from over 14,000 images made during his three-week expedition.

Color! 10 Things You Want To Know

We can make or break our photographs through our choices of what and how we include particular colors, color palettes, and color combinations/proximities. We'll learn when sometimes it's best to express your color photo in black and white. We'll explore how to get consistent color throughout our process of creating an image in the field, through our digital darkroom, to output on a website, presentation, or a print.

Shoot Any Time, Anywhere

Sure, it's great to shoot in the perfect golden light, in exotic places, in perfect weather, with amazing sights, sounds, and scenery abounding! But what do we do about our majority of time outdoors when all the cosmos aren't aligned for such ideal conditions? We'll explore how we can add skills, techniques, and maybe a few new gizmos, to expand our creative photographic toolbox that allows us to create "great" shots under any condition we may encounter, no matter where we are.

Ordinary to Extraordinary: Tips for Moving from "Good" Photos to "Great" Ones

Let's take a break from all the technology – no megapixels, computers, software, workflow, etc. Nada, rien, nothing. Instead, let's dig into the essence of the Photo! We'll dive into a multitude of factors we can apply to our shooting to make consistently better images and enable a greater range of artistic expression. Almost one hundred(!) concepts used in photo critiques shall trigger your auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles. We'll illustrate, and then challenge, some of the more typical "rules." Then we'll open horizons to some of the more sophisticated photographic constructs that can create rich, layered photos which work on the viewer's subconscious and conscious levels and express our best and deepest visions!
